Lights Out (Exclusive Preview)
If only the weapons-grade yammering would stop. Now.
Starch stiffened his pillowcase and the air reeked of antiseptic. Tornahdo pried open his eyes. An empty blood bag hung overhead. Stenciled equipment and gray walls screamed military hospital.
He’d died. Again.
A Spanish curse slipped out before he could stop it. His abuela would’ve washed his mind out with soap for thinking such a word. He made the sign of the cross and kissed his fingertips in respect.
After yanking out the tube stuck in his arm, he pressed a thumb over the entry point. Thankfully, this time, he wasn’t writhing on the floor in agony. Well, not yet.
The mind-numbing yapping continued.
“Did you hear?” a youthful voice bragged. “He killed six of ’em last night.”
“Yeah, but how long did they stay dead?”
“They’re not zombies or vampires. You can’t stake an Ultra through the heart or hold ’em off with garlic. If they didn’t come back to life, we couldn’t use their blood to save lives.”
The transfusion of enemy blood healed the hole in his arm in seconds. Tornahdo thumbed off the red smear and rolled over on the gurney.
